Free spins explained

Free spins are the most common casino offer. They are easy to value once you know the stake per spin and how the winnings are paid.

How free spins work

You get a set number of spins on one named slot, or a short list of them, at a fixed stake. The stake is usually the game's minimum, often 0.10 or 0.20 a spin. Large batches are often paid in parts, such as 20 spins a day for five days.

What a batch is worth

Multiply the spins by the stake: 50 spins at 0.10 is 5.00 of play. Multiply that by the slot's RTP for the average return: at 96%, about 4.80. That is what the spins are worth on average before any wagering, however big the number of spins sounds.

How winnings are paid

  • As bonus money: the most common. Winnings carry their own wagering, so 4.80 at 35x means 168 in further bets before you can withdraw.
  • As cash: no-wagering spins pay winnings straight to your real balance. Fewer spins are usually offered, but each one is worth more.

The terms that cap them

  • Expiry: unused spins often expire within 24 hours to 7 days of being credited.
  • Maximum cashout: winnings from spins are often capped, for example at 100.
  • Eligible games: the winnings may have to be wagered on certain slots only.
  • Deposit first: spins given without a deposit usually need one before you can withdraw what they won.

Comparing free spin offers

Compare spin value and how winnings are paid, not the number of spins. 20 no-wagering spins at 0.20 can be worth more than 100 spins at 0.10 with 40x wagering on the winnings. Our bonus list shows the free spin offers open in your country with their wagering and minimum deposit.
